Delaware Advances Community Solar Projects to Support Energy Affordability


Four new community solar projects are moving forward in Delaware, supporting efforts to expand clean energy, strengthen the electric grid, and improve energy affordability for Delaware households.


The solar projects in Seaford, Townsend, and Clayton were accepted into Delaware’s JobsFirst Permitting Accelerator Program and are expected to generate more than 16 megawatts of solar energy and represent more than $73 million in clean energy investment.

JobsFirst is an initative launched by Delaware Governor Matt Meyer through Executive Order 18 to reform the state’s permitting systems and accelerate infrastructure, housing, and energy projects. The program brings state agencies together through coordinated reviews, shared timelines, and a single point of contact for qualifying projects. The goal is to reduce unnecessary delays while maintaining environmental protections and opportunities for public input.

These four community solar projects demonstrate how this approach can help move energy projects from planning toward development. According to state officials, the projects could provide an estimated 10%–15% reduction in electricity costs for more than 16,000 Delaware households through community solar.

The projects are part of Delaware’s broader efforts to expand energy resources, support grid reliability, and identify opportunities to make energy more affordable for customers.

Community solar gives customers an opportunity to benefit from solar energy without installing panels on their own property. Eligible customers can subscribe to a community solar project and receive credits on their electric bills based on the energy generated.
